I'm Alice. Here's a little bit of other information about me.
You'll typically find me pottering about the neighbourhood of my home town of
Subiaco in Western Australia - I love the community feel of life here.
I'm a frequenter of local coffee shops. I enjoy a lot of reading (fiction and
non-fiction), studying random things that take my interest, and simple moments
with my husband and our very fluffy cat.
I grew up in Perth, and even with plenty of travel, this place has always been
home - my family are here.
My Indonesian journey began on family trips to Bali. I just wanted to be polite
and learn some of the local language. A simple wish to be polite turned into
something deeper the day I realised I couldn't have a meaningful conversation
with a hotel worker whose life I genuinely wanted to understand. That moment
sparked my commitment to learn Bahasa Indonesia and understand more about our
closest neighbour.
Since then, I've travelled to Bali, Lombok, Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, and
Pontianak - eating, learning, talking, taking the Whoosh train, visiting mosques,
staying in homestays, and sharing moments where kindness mattered more than
language. I've always felt welcomed, especially when I try to speak Bahasa Indonesia.
When I'm not working or travelling, you'll find me reading, doing word puzzles,
practising Bahasa Indonesia, drawing, cooking simple meals, or making people laugh.
I love international films, documentaries, and performances — anything that
opens a window into another world.
One day, I'd love to live in Indonesia for a while — to immerse myself in the
culture, improve my language skills, live simply, and contribute in ways that
genuinely make a difference. I'm drawn to being a conduit for connection,
helping people meet across cultures and shared interests.
